Scoil Pól Secondary School are delighted to announce the launch of their school musical, ‘Mamma Mia’, which will be staged in the school on 30th, 31st March and Saturday 1st April 2017.
‘Excitement and anticipation has started to build within the cast, the dancers and across the whole school’ said Principal Mike O Hara. ‘It is over thirty years since there was a staging of a school musical here in Kilfinane, and staff and students are all looking forward to it’.
The cast for this year’s show is drawn from 2nd, 5th and Transition Years, following open auditions for all students in these years. Rehearsals have begun in earnest since returning after the Christmas holidays under the keen tutelage of Edel Mc Inery from Bruff.
The show is being produced by Pat Murnane from Tipperary town while chorography will be designed and taught by Pat’s daughter Claire.
‘This is a very experienced production team and they will be able assisted in set construction, public relations and promotions and all other aspects of the show by a willing staff and Parents Association, said Mr O Hara. This will be, truly, a school show with many hands helping out wherever needed’.
We are planning three evening shows from Thursday 30th March to Saturday 1st April and added to that, there will be two matinee shows for our own students and local primary schools. Details on these shows along with ticket prices, etc will be announced in the coming weeks, he added
Giving students the opportunity to take part in a school show, to encourage and build their confidence, to promote and develop their talents – this is a side to education that doesn’t come from a book, but is character building in its essence and will last with them throughout their lives. Whether these talents are in singing, dancing, set construction, poster design or whatever, these are core talents that will shape individuals into the adults they will become. This is why we decided to stage a musical here in Scoil Pól this year, and it is my sincerest hope that it will become an annual event from here on out, concluded Mr O Hara.
