2 week Irish Summer Camp, “Cursa de Paor” in  Scoil Pól, Kilfinane

Scóil Pól is delighted and excited to announce the return of our 2 week Irish Camp in July. This camp is organised in association with Lisa and Gearóid Power, daughter and son of the late Ger Power from Knocklong who established similar Irish camps in the Limerick area in the past and Noreen O Riordan from Effin, who teaches in Scoil Pól. This year's camp runs from July 2nd- July 13th.

This Summer course has been running in Scoil Pol since July 2015 and has been going from strength to strength ever since. The course is for pupils from  3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in primary school classes along with 1st, 2nd,  and 3rd year students from secondary schools. The aim of the course is to encourage the use of Irish in a relaxed, fun and entertaining way, encouraging students to use our native language in a natural way.

There are classroom activities, as well as Physical Education (including Hurling/Camogie, Gaelic Football, Soccer, Rounders, Basketball, Dodgeball, Tennis), Irish Dancing, Music (Song Singing and Musical Instruments), Cooking, Quizzes, Drama,  & a "surprise day out"!!! All tutors are established and practising teachers from both primary and secondary levels with experience in taking part in summer camps. Among the teachers  teaching at Cúrsa de Paor are Gearóid Power, Brid Madigan,Sarah Collins, Noreen O Riordan, Aoife Barron and Brid Mc Grath. The school is especially delighted that Gearóid Power is involved in our camp, as he brings many years of experience and knowledge of summer camps. Gearoid and Noreen organise, plan, advertise and manage this course in a highly skilled professional manner and the feedback from students and parents is truly amazing . It gives us great satisfaction to know that the vision that the late Ger Power had is being continued and his love of the Irish language lives on through the course.

Students travel from far and wide to attend Cúrsa de Paor. Budding enthusiasts have come from Ardpatrick, Ballyorgan, Bruff, Bruree, Knocklong, Galbally, Glenbrohane, Kilmallock, Effin, Athlacca, Kilfinane, Hospital, Knockainey, Ballyhea and Charleville. We even have students from as far away as France and Australia attend our course in the past.
